Independent — not a contractor

RenoCostCalc is an independent resource for understanding what home renovations actually cost. We are not a contractor, a home-improvement company, or a lead broker chasing the highest bidder. We're a small team that got tired of watching homeowners overpay — or blow their budgets — simply because renovation pricing is so hard to pin down. So we built a guide, and a free calculator, that lay it out honestly.

Our mission is simple: give homeowners clear, unbiased pricing for the projects they're weighing — kitchens, bathrooms, additions, basements, roofing, flooring, decks, and whole-house remodels — so you can plan a realistic budget and walk into any bid already knowing the fair range. When a quote comes in high, you'll know why. When it comes in suspiciously low, you'll know to ask questions.

How we research costs

  • Real ranges, not single numbers. Renovation prices swing widely with scope, materials, and region, so we report ranges instead of one misleading figure.
  • Multiple sources per project. We compile published cost data, industry remodeling reports, material and labor pricing, and figures shared by homeowners and trades, then translate them into plain-language ranges.
  • Regularly reviewed. Material and labor costs change. We revisit our estimates so the ranges you see reflect current pricing.
  • Plain-language explanations. We explain what drives the price — materials, labor, permits, layout changes, and finishes — so the numbers make sense.
  • No hidden agenda. We don't inflate prices to sell anything, and we don't lowball to win your business, because we're not bidding on your project.

Estimates, not quotes

Everything on RenoCostCalc — including our calculator — produces an estimate, not a quote. Estimates help you set a budget and judge whether a bid is reasonable. Only a licensed contractor who visits your home can give you a firm price for your specific project, materials, and local labor market.

Renovation budgets are among the biggest financial decisions a homeowner makes, and we take that seriously. Our content is written to inform and is reviewed for accuracy against current data before we publish it. Use it to plan smart, ask better questions, and avoid surprises — then get real bids before you commit.
